Over 5.2 million citizens turn to
www.atlantaga.gov for direct online communication with the City of Atlanta. With an audience of this size, it was important that the City provide a top notch website packed with easy-to-find information and services. The City worked with Vision Internet to turn their once cumbersome, outdated website into an innovative tool that has reconnected the citizens, visitors, and local businesses of this great metropolis.
A major focus of the Atlanta redesign was to rid the site of interior webpage clutter. The two teams prioritized, organized, and streamlined information to condense over 4,000 web pages to 1,000. All vital information is now much easier to find through a network of intuitive navigational tools such as dropdown main navigation menus, interior page breadcrumbs, quick links, and a search bar.
The internal processes involving the website were revisited to improve efficiency. Structuring features built into the
visionCMS™ – such as advanced workflow and site permissions – provide the enterprise functionality needed to keep content freely flowing to citizens. Updates and maintenance for each department section are the responsibility of the department PIO or an appointed team of staff members. This decentralization of responsibility and hierarchy of publishing power have contributed greatly to the success of Atlanta’s new website.
