The City of Reno is known as a unique tourist destination. However, in the last several years, Reno has undergone many dramatic enhancements to the community and needed an attractive new website to promote its exciting new presence while also keeping information easy to find.
A challenge with maintaining the previous website was that the City has approximately 130 website editors. The City needed a content management solution that would reduce the time required for updates while ensuring accuracy. The new content management system allows website editors to post content in one location and have that material automatically publish on multiple areas, saving staff time. Also, the website uses an approval cycle where content may go through an additional level of approval before publishing to ensure that information is accurate and consistent.
The website’s design has also improved dramatically. Along with rotating homepage images, the website uses different design themes for subsections, including the Visitors, Business, and Keeping It Green (an environmental campaign) sections. This has allowed for unique branding for each section, all while maintaining navigational consistency. The website also has a News & Media Center and a Calendar, both of which automatically archive material after a date defined by the author; end users can filter news and events by category and/or department. It has never been easier to keep the website current, and staff are enjoying the chance to communicate directly with the community, streamline their workload, and reduce marketing expenses.
