Recognizing that today the web is a key element of good service, the City of Charlottesville sought to create a new website focused on the needs of residents and businesses plus the thousands of visitors who flock to the area to see the home of Thomas Jefferson and the birthplace of our country. The new website realizes the Vision and catapults the City to a national leader.
The site’s easy-to-use drop down menu allows any type of user to find the information they need quickly. Clearly marked sections for community members, businesses, and visitors facilitate easy browsing, whether a user is a citizen looking for community news, a business searching for permit information, or a visitor seeking a calendar of events. The innovative “I Want To…” navigation provides a unique and natural way to locate important services.
While Vision Internet created several interactive tools including the Calendar, News, e-Notification, and others, the site also serves as a foundation for custom applications that interact directly with the SAP backend systems for bill payments, online job applications, online bidding and procurement, and service requests. The result is a website that carries the City of Charlottesville into a leading position of redefining how government can serve its citizens in the twenty first century.
