New City Website Empowers Citizens of Vacaville, CA
Advanced CMS transforms California government website
Date: 8/15/2012

The much anticipated launch of the City of Vacaville’s redesigned website recently took place. The new site can be accessed at www.cityofvacaville.com.

The much-needed rebuild has transformed the city site from a cumbersome source of frustration to a powerful communication tool.

“Our site was almost a decade old and needed some serious freshening up,” noted Vacaville’s Public Information Officer Mark Mazzaferro. “Now, our website is comparable to some of the best city websites in California. Even more important, our residents can be better informed and have powerful online tools at their disposal.”

Among the many advances, visitors will notice a sleek calendar system has replaced the broken-down calendar of the old site. This new calendar is searchable by department and category and streams upcoming community events directly to the homepage. Representatives of non-profit organizations can submit their events for inclusion on the City’s calendar through the website as well.

Other features include links that allow residents to submit inquiries directly through the website; and the ability to reserve meeting rooms and other facilities online.

Additional Gov 2.0 features were added to further enhance the City’s community outreach:
• Community Polling Tools
• Job Postings
• Direct links to RecWeb for online class and event registration
• Emergency homepage alerts
• Facilities and staff directories
• and more

To ensure a successful launch, the City partnered with known industry leaders, Vision Internet. Their 16 years of government website experience came in handy as they restructured the site navigation and created a unique design based on government website best practices.

“Vision Internet provided us with a powerful government CMS solution that could easily make sense of our scattered website workflow,” continued Mazzaferro. “The intuitive nature of the Vision CMSTM makes training staff easy - empowering more people to update the site more often. It’s great to see our website progress on a daily basis.”
